After contacting the Entertainment Director many times at the Iale of Capri Casino, Kelli received a Billboard Songwriters "Honorable Mention" for her R&B original "The Way Love Use to Be". She mailed a copy of the paper write-up to then E.D. Regie Burt who called her immediately. Referring to her as, "Little Miss Billboard" when she answered the phone he gave her a date, January 22nd . Kelli had been working the Shreveport Petroleum Club as well as Barksdale Air Force Base Officers Club and the NCO. She had established a following and fanbase in the area. Regie asked how big a group she had. Kelli said a Trio explaining to him she played piano and kicked a lefthand LIVE bass line, drums and guitar. He told her you need at aleast a 5 piece band. She got some musicians name and put together a band adding: steel guitar, tenor sax and trumpet. The night of the show everyone literaly walked in shaking hands and introducing themselves to each other. Athough her husband knew the steel guitar player the rest were new to them both.

But with Kelli as the backbone of the band, playing so many parts and her husbnad on lead guitar as well as her drummer who had worked with her for many years the new musicians just had to follow her lead. But they were excellent musicians adding wonderful leads and fills.

The night was magical. Kelli had mailed invitations to everyone. And her fans and friends didn't let her down. The night of the booking the showroom had standing room only attnedance to see her perform.

That ONE booking proved to be an opening into the system she had been trying to get a foot hold in for a long time. And it paid off. The Entertainment Director moved to another Casino but the word had spread of her success. Trela Wilson took Regis's position booking Kelli for 5 more return engagements from that one performance. Trela ADDED Kelli's name to the Casino's BLUE BOOK and listing her as one of their BEST SHOWS. Kelli and her band, "the Swing Kings" were placed  on the Isle of Capri Casino Circuit with bookings in Vicksburg, Ms and Bossier City.

By now her band, "the Swing Kings" had grown to include Violin and/or another Sax/Clarinet.

Kelli headlined NEW YEAR'S EVE at the Isle of Capri Casino in Lake Charles, LA along with the 60's group "The Crystals" who had such hits as: Da Do Ron Ron, Then He Kissed Me, He's a Rebel and more.

The Flamingo Bay Ballroom normal seating arrangement was for about 500. That night the Casino set tables even into the hall area outside the arch doorways expanding a capacity crowd of a 1000.

This recording is from one of the her LIVE performances at the Isle of Capri in Bossier City, La. Their sound engineer would record performances to play for the Entertainment Directors to review. Barry was kind enough to give Kelli a copy telling her,
"the casino is not worried about your performance".
